WASHING ADVICE
Always check the care label sewn into the garment first, as this is authoritative. The washing symbols indicate how the garment should be cleaned.
General tips for washing, drying and ironing:
- Use minimal detergent
- Don't spot clean new clothing
- Wash colored clothing separately for the first few washes
- Use detergents without bleach to preserve color
- Always wash clothes inside out
- Machine washing is preferable to hand washing when indicated
- First wash should not exceed 30°C to minimize shrinkage
- For hand washing, dissolve detergent in lukewarm water (max 30°C) before adding the garment
- Wash wool and silk items with extra care
SPINNING AND DRYING
Be careful with spinning - some items like silk and wool should not be spun.
- Check if tumble drying is allowed - higher drying temperatures increase shrinkage
- Dry knitted clothing flat on a towel
- Hang woven and cotton jersey items to dry
- Don't dry colored clothing in direct sunlight.
IRONING
- Check the care label for permissible temperature
- Iron garments on the inside when possible
- Iron cotton while slightly damp
- Wool and silk should be ironed with a damp cloth or Teflon sole at low heat
- Steam is always 100°C - only use on items marked with three dots
FABRIC CHARACTERISTICS
All HUMANOID clothing is thoroughly tested for quality and washability. The label always indicates materials and percentages.
PILLING
Pilling can occur from wearing or washing voluminous fabrics. This is not a quality issue but a characteristic of the fabric. Use a pill remover or comb to maintain garments.
SHRINKING OR FELTING OF WOOL
- Wool can shrink or felt due to:
- Washing above 30°C
- Leaving too long in water
- Using too much soap
- Using high spin speeds
SHRINKING OR FELTING OF WOOL
STATIC FABRICS
Synthetic fabrics and silk can become static. Weather conditions (especially high pressure, winter) can increase static electricity. Synthetic items may attract more static when combined with other synthetic garments.
Solutions:
- For woolen winter fabrics: place in freezer for a few hours
- For smoother synthetic fabrics: wash with fabric softener
LEATHER PRODUCTS
Leather is a natural product with visible characteristics that are not defects. Spray new leather with colorless protectant before wearing.
- Care tips:
- Never store in plastic bags
- Leather can discolor in sunlight
- If wet, dry at room temperature away from heat sources
- Clean dried water spots with a soft brush or leather sponge
- Re-spray after getting wet
- Never use harsh solvents
- Suede may shed initially
- Only clean at professional leather specialists
